America is a nation whose people are living with acute, chronic or long-term pain. Depending on the study criteria the estimated numbers range from 50 million to 100 million people in pain.
As the over usage of prescription opioids has become endemic and more people are addicted to them, many studies are going on about alternative methods of treating pain.
Currently there are several governmental bodies funding research and studying a variety of methods to ease or eliminate pain. Included in the therapies are meditation, stretching, chiropractic and massage. The focus of the variety of studies is to avoid drug dependence or even usage.
One of the most common causes of pain in the American public is arthritis. Statistics indicate 25% of Americans have arthritis. Muscle imbalances, restricted movement and thickening of fascial tissue can cause damage to joints. Massage, specifically the bodywork known as Myofascial Release (MFR) can reverse a lot of the fascial tissue restrictions, releasing the joint and allowing the body to heal itself.
As a massage therapist specializing in MFR, I have many clients with a variety of joint pain, some caused by over usage of the joint and some caused by arthritis. A consistent plan of regular sessions to release the fascial system (connective tissue) can relieve and in some cases eliminate joint pain.
As more studies are done on a variety of alternative methods for pain reduction and elimination, more people will choose to go the drug free route when dealing with their pain.
So, if you have arthritis, or any other type of pain, feel free to contact me to discuss your situation and see if MFR is right for you.
