Insurance Billing – Did you know???
Most health insurance plans do not cover massage, which is unfortunate because there would be a lot more happy people in the world if they could get a regular massage!
Still, there are some ways you may be able to have your massage covered:
1. Check with your healthcare insurance provider to determine if they have negotiated a reduced rate with a local massage therapist.
2. Another means of getting massage is through your FSA (Flexible Spending Account). Some insurance carriers allow for massage without needing a doctor’s note. Some require it. Check with your FSA carrier to determine if you can pay with your FSA card for a regular massage
3. If you are involved in an auto accident, most auto carriers do pay for massage if it is deemed medically necessary by your doctor. If you work with a massage therapist that does medical billing, you will be able to receive massages and your auto insurance carrier will pay. As always, subject to your medical payments limit on your automobile policy.
4. While less common than automobile accidents, some worker’s compensation carriers will cover medically necessary massage. If you’ve been involved in a workplace accident, check with the carrier or your HR contact to determine if coverage would be provided.
